Customizing Your Calendar

You can customize your calendar by adding users, a to-do list, a background image, extra holidays, or colors to calendar squares.

Adding and Changing Users

You can add other users to your calendar, each of whom has his or her own customized calendar and occasions.

To add a new user:

  1. Click Settings. The Calendar Settings dialog box appears.
  2. Click the Users tab in the Calendar Settings dialog box. The Users options appear:
  3. Click Add User. The Add a User dialog box appears:
  4. Enter the name of the new user in the Add a User dialog box. Then click Add. The Users options appear.
  5. The location of the new user's settings in your computer is shown in the User folder field of the Users information box. To change this default location of the new user's settings:
    1. Click the button at the right of the User folder field. The Browse for Folder dialog box appears:
    2. Select a location for the new user's settings.
    3. Click OK. The Calendar Settings dialog box appears.
  6. Click Save in the Calendar Settings dialog box. The new user's settings are now saved in the location you specified.

To change users:

  1. Click Users at the top of the calendar. A drop-down list of users appears.
  2. Click the user whose calendar you want to view. That user's calendar appears.

Adding a To-do List

You can add a simple to-do list to your calendar, although you cannot have to-do lists for individual dates.

Note: You can also type reminders or to-do items in the white space at the bottom of every month view.

To add a to-do list to your calendar:

  1. Click Settings. The Calendar Settings dialog box appears.
  2. Click the Main Options tab in the Calendar Settings dialog box. The Main Options appear:
  3. In the Calendar settings section of the Main Options, click Show to-do list tab.
  4. Click Save. The To-do List tab appears on your calendar.
  5. To view your to-do list, click the To-do List tab.

To add a task to your to-do list:

  1. Click the To-do List tab.
  2. When your to-do list appears, click Click here to add a new task. Enter your new task in the same field.
  3. To save your new task, click anywhere on the to-do list.
  4. You can indicate the importance of your task by clicking the column to the left of the task. Then click one of the options, Low, Normal, or High.
  5. To check off a completed task, click in the square box preceding the task.
  6. To return to the calendar, click a month tab. When you return to your to-do list later, your completed tasks will be removed.

Adding a Background Image to Your Calendar

Your calendar comes with images you can select for a background image, or you can use one of your own images.

To select one of the built-in images for your calendar:

  1. Click Settings. The Calendar Settings dialog box appears.
  2. Click the Extended Options tab in the Calendar Settings dialog box. The Extended Options appear:
  3. Click the arrow at the right of the field just below Wallpaper. A scroll list of images appears.
  4. Click an image in the scroll list and click Save. The image appears on your calendar.

To use one of your own images for a background:

  1. Click Settings. The Calendar Settings dialog box appears.
  2. Click the Extended Options tab in the Calendar Settings dialog box. The Extended Options appear.
  3. Click the open folder button in the Wallpaper section of the Extended Options. A directory of your folders appears:
  4. Double-click the folder containing the image you want. A list of the images in the folder appears.
  5. Click the image you want as a background image. Then click Select. The Extended Options appear.
  6. Click the arrow at the right of the Position field. A drop-down list appears with three options. Click Center to center your image on your calendar; click Tile to repeat your image across your calendar; or click Stretch to stretch your image to fit your calendar.
  7. Click Save. Your image appears on your calendar.

Adding and Removing Holidays from Your Calendar

You can add or remove holidays from your calendar, including your own custom holidays.

To add a custom holiday to your calendar:

  1. Click Settings. The Calendar Settings dialog box appears.
  2. Click the Occasion Options tab in the Calendar Settings dialog box. The Occasion Options appear:
  3. Click Add in the Holidays box. The Add Custom Holiday dialog box appears:
  4. Enter the holiday name, month, and day in the Add Custom Holiday box.
  5. If you have an image to use for the holiday, click the open folder button. A directory of your folders appears:
  6. Double-click the folder containing the image you want to use. A list of images in the folder appears.
  7. Click the image you want for your holiday. Then click Select. The Add Custom Holiday dialog box appears.
  8. Click Save. The Calendar Settings dialog box appears, and your new holiday is shown in the Custom Holidays drop-down list.
  9. Click Save to return to your calendar. Your custom holiday appears on your calendar.

To remove a custom holiday from your calendar:

  1. Click Settings. The Calendar Settings Dialog box appears.
  2. Click the Occasion Options tab in the Calendar Settings dialog box. The Occasion Options appear.
  3. Click the arrow at the right of the Custom Holidays field to view your custom holidays.
  4. Click the holiday you want to remove and then click Del.
  5. Click Save, and your calendar appears.

To add or remove a default holiday from your calendar:

  1. Click Settings. The Calendar Settings Dialog box appears.
  2. Click the Occasion Options tab in the Calendar Settings dialog box. The Occasion Options appear.
  3. Click the Defaults button in the Holidays box. The Common Holidays dialog box appears:
  4. Check the holidays you want to appear on your calendar, then click OK. The Occasion Options appear.
  5. Click Save, and your calendar appears.

Adding Colors to Calendar Squares

You can color a calendar square any color. You can also color weekends or recurring occasions on your calendar automatically.

To color a calendar square:

  1. Right-click the calendar square.
  2. From the options that appear, click Set Background Color. The Color dialog box appears.
  3. Click the color you want in the Color dialog box. Then click OK. The square you selected is now colored.

To color recurring occasions automatically:

  1. Follow the instructions for putting a recurring occasion on your calendar.
  2. When you set the options in the Recurring Occasions dialog box, click Background color. The Color dialog box appears.
  3. Click the Color you want for your recurring occasion. Then click OK. The Add Recurring Occasion dialog box appears.
  4. Make your other selections in the Add Recurring Occasion dialog box. Then click OK, and your calendar appears. The dates of your occasions are colored automatically.

Note: You can add color to a recurring occasion already on your calendar by right-clicking the occasion and clicking Edit Occasion from among the options that appear. The Add Recurring Occasion dialog box appears. To color the recurring occasion, follow Steps 2, 3, and 4 above for coloring recurring occasions automatically.

To remove the background color from a square:

  1. Right-click the square.
  2. From the options that appear, click Clear Background Color. The color is removed from the square.
